Customize the language of your map labels in Studio
By: Kelsey Taylor and Clare Trainor
We’ve added two new language options, Italian and Vietnamese, to our Mapbox Streets tileset, bringing the total number of supported languages to 13. Start building a new style today in Studio to take advantage of these options!
To change the language of labels in a component, simply select the language of your choice from the dropdown menu and voilà! This style now has Italian place labels instead of the default English labels.

The coalesce expression that creates these labels first selects the language chosen in the dropdown menu. If no translation is available, the label uses the Local language option as a fallback. For components like Natural features where coverage is always improving for new languages, the Local language fallback ensures your style has adequate label coverage.

Speaking of the Local language option — this is a great way to customize your map by geography!
We currently offer language support in the Natural features, Place labels, Point of interest labels, Road network, and Transit components. Read more about the various language options in the Mapbox Streets tileset and let us know what additional language options you would like to see.
