Mapbox now supports full offline in-dash navigation. You can run automotive applications with turn-by-turn directions, maps, and search in areas without any internet connectivity.

We focused on developing a new bit packed file format with an extremely small footprint on disk and in-dash memory — all the while preserving a fast and seamless routing experience. All of North America fits into less than 5 GB of storage.

This solution is designed for fully offline environments and mixed online/offline scenarios. The application behavior between online and offline mode does not change so there is no additional integration cost.

It’s crucial for automative navigation to switch seamlessly between online and offline mode. Drivers benefit from navigation driven by real-time traffic when connected and from reliable predictive traffic information when disconnected. The data for offline navigation is updated whenever a connection is restored so your application is always supported by the Mapbox cloud platform.
