Growing our data team in Peru

The doors to our new office in Ayacucho, Peru are officially open! Our data team there is improving OpenStreetMap, from tracing satellite imagery to improving routes and directions. The energy starts at home in Peru, with the team making Ayacucho one of the best mapped cities in Latin America, and quickly expands to importing building footprints in New York City and San Francisco.

This is a long time coming. Development Seed, the data visualization and mapping company that Mapbox grew out of, started in Ayacucho back in 2003, and we’ve been working from Peru ever since. Our team in the city is now eight people strong and touching more data than ever before. We’re currently growing this data team.
