Samsung’s multi-screen maps for the digital connected cockpit

Samsung’s highly polished vision for the digital connected cockpit drew crowds at CES. Front and center, it featured gorgeous Mapbox maps accessible to both driver and passengers.
Samsung’s in-house team built the entire experience in just four weeks. Using the Mapbox Navigation SDK and Maps SDK for Android, the team customized the maps to complement the digital cockpit design with the right fonts, colors, and labels to create a seamless appearance in the dashboard screens.
The digital cockpit focused on personalization, connectivity, and safety, featuring a total of six displays. The instrumental cluster is designed for a clean, distraction-free, turn-by-turn navigation experience. Meanwhile, the central infotainment screen and remaining passenger screens offer rich maps for browsing. Location-based points of interest, destination highlights, and 15 cm high-resolution screens allow passengers to explore their destination or plan their next stop.
The multi-modal system gives passengers a choice in how they interact: they can control the maps using highly responsive, pixel-dense, touchscreen displays; physical smart dials available on the console; or voice-activated commands using Samsung’s digital assistant, Bixby.
All told, this digital cockpit is a great representation of the future of in-car navigation, providing a highly engaging, interactive, and beautiful experience.
