We’ll soon be making Speed Limits available through our APIs, offering a valuable tool for fleets to monitor and improve safety.

With the explosion of transportation apps, on-demand logistics, and part-time drivers, safety and speed compliance are more important — and more challenging — than ever. A recent study found that over 42% of drivers who pick up work through an app have damaged their vehicle while working, and incidents cost commercial fleets more than 3 million lost workdays per year.

Monitoring and tracking compliance can help. Implementing an asset tracking solution and ensuring prompt follow-up on detected speeding can reduce incidents by up to 90%, while also reducing liability risk and insurance premiums.

With Speed Limits in the Directions and Map Matching APIs, best-in-class fleets can easily monitor driver behavior in real time, flag drivers with repeated speeding incidents, and intervene quickly, through dashboards like this:

Speed limit information will launch in the United States soon and that’s just the beginning. We’re continuously expanding our dataset, using live detection from our Vision SDK, government sources, and verified community contributors. Over the next few months, we’ll announce expanded coverage over the United States and Europe. Interested in learning more? Get in touch with our team.
